Is CB2 oil legal in New Zealand?
4 min read · Terpene Republic
Yes, as a food. Cannanda CB2 hemp seed oil is made from hemp seed, carries only the natural trace of THC and CBD that hemp seed has, and is sold as a food in New Zealand, without a prescription. We deliver within Australia for now; New Zealand follows (register your interest).
The rules, briefly
- New Zealand permitted hemp seed as food from 12 November 2018 under the Food Regulations and the industrial-hemp rules, with limits on THC and CBD. The batches of Cannanda's hemp seed oil tested at the Australian border were inside the same limits.
- The Ministry of Health and Medsafe draw a hard line between hemp seed oil (a food) and "hemp oil" or hemp extract (treated as a prescription medicine when imported). Cannanda CB2 is the former: cold-pressed seed oil with a food-grade terpene blend. That is how it is labelled, and how it will be declared when New Zealand orders open.
- Beta-caryophyllene itself is a food flavouring found in pepper and clove; it is not a controlled drug.
What it is not
Under the Dietary Supplements Regulations 1985 a supplement sold in New Zealand cannot carry therapeutic claims, and a product with a therapeutic purpose is a medicine under the Medicines Act. We keep to that: this site tells you what the products are and how they are used, not what they treat. If you have a health condition, talk to your GP or pharmacist.
Cannanda CB2 products are foods and aromatherapy products, not medicines. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take medication, talk to your healthcare practitioner.
